I debate because it helps me build confidence in my speaking skills and I get to meet new people with the same interests as me. I love researching and debating topics I would have never know of otherwise.
- Sydney David, East HS
I used to think I had such definite opinions on the world and politics but, after joining debate my world opened up. I began to question my ideas and accept new and different ones, I realized that most sides of a topic are understandable if you're just willing to listen. It's really changed my life!
-Maria Freese, East HS
The reason I debate is to meet new people. Debate has such a welcoming atmosphere full of unique and interesting individuals. I also love immersing myself in the current events and culture of the world. Every week I get to discuss several topics and issues with a room full different perspectives.
-Sam Gilbert, Denfeld HS
Debate is an exciting and fun activity to do. Also it’s an activity that exercises our brain with interesting ideas. Debate also exposes us to new unique and diverse ways of thinking.
-Rex Troche, East HS
I debate because it's fun, and my friend (Harper) told me to do it at the beginning of freshman year. After the first practice I really liked it, and the team dynamics are great. Competitions are fun too.
-Emily Menze, East HS
First of all, the other people in the team are amazing. I’m also in because it’s fun, especially when you leave around and feel like you did well. I’ve also learned a lot about topics I hadn’t known about before.
-Harper Deasy, East HS
I debate because I like researching for the hidden information that most people wouldn't use in their cases. And I've found that after being in debate, I've been researching a lot on everything going on in our world as there is usually more to the story to find out.
-Clara Brock, East HS
I debate because it gives me a chance to step out of my comfort zone, and to dress up in a suit every weekend.
